PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relieve a communication fault by taking a detour to avoid the fault through detour processing by means of an ISDN channel on the occurrence of a fault in a transmission line and also of a fault of a device in the network consisting of multiplexers and leased lines. ;SOLUTION: Each multiplexer has connection destination information that denotes a 1st detour destination to an adjacent multiplexer and a 2nd detour destination that is a 2nd detour destination when the device of the 1st detour destination is defective. On the occurrence of a fault between the multiplexers 1 and 2, the multiplexer 1 acts like a caller station, and selects an adjacent device 2 that is an object of a 1st detour destination being a connection destination denoted by stored ISDN connection destination information and if the adjacent device 2 being the 1st object is defective and cannot be selected, the multiplexer 1 sets a 2nd object device 3 and also attains connection to a device remoter than the device 3.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
