PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copyright protection system by which digital information can be used freely and securely while protecting copyright. PSOLUTION: An encipherment function is included in a digital AV information about a literary work, and an encipherment function is included in a recording medium 110 recorded with the digital AV information. A copyright management server 104 has an encipherment release function SP-1/SPfor releasing encryption made by the encipherment function . Meanwhile, the recording medium has an encipherment release function SP-1/SPfor releasing encipherment made by the encipherment function . In other words, even if the digital AV information is recorded on the recording medium 110, the information can not be obtained only with the digital AV information. The digital AV information can not be read out and correctly reproduced until both the encipherment release function SP-1/SPprepared on the copyright management server 104 side and the inherent encipherment release function SP-1/SPwritten in the recording medium 110 are combined.
