Variable computer icon for a single control of complex software functions executed on a data processing system

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable computer icon on a display function as single control for a data processing system to execute complicated software functions using many parameters. ;SOLUTION: When single control is revised by the user on a display device, since a parameter is automatically revised, a response of complicated software functions is changed. When the single control is moved in a direction, the response of the functions is reduced. A method to transit gradually and smoothly functions in a consistent behavior from a minimum position S_min to a maximum position S_max on an icon is provided by generating setting on the icon. The single control provides a capability of reducing a space consumed by the graphical user interface and revising the functions under its control without losing ease of use and simplicity in the case of controlling the execution of the complicated software function and without revising the interface apparently.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
