PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an exterminating agent having an antimicrobial spectrum in a wide range, exhibiting excellent antimicrobial and fungicidal effects, showing inhibitory effects on proliferation of various harmful microorganisms, by combining glutaraldehyde with a specific compound. ;SOLUTION: This agent is obtained by combining (A) glutaraldehyde with (B) at least one antimicrobial compound selected from a halocyanoacetamide derivative of the formula (R¹ is H, a halogen, etc.; R² is H or an alkyl; X is a halogen), 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol, 4,5-dichloro-2-octylisothiazolin-3-one, 4,5-dichloro-1,2-dithiol-3-one, 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-diacetoxypropane, etc. The blending ratio of the components A and B used is preferably (100:1) to (1:10) by weight. This exterminating agent for harmful organisms is preferably used by separately or simultaneously adding the components A and B especially to a white water system in a papermaking process so as to make 1-200ppm total concentration.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
