PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process of copolymers of formaldhehyde and diphenyl oxide having a reduced batch-to-batch variation in the viscosity and the residual amount of starting materials by controlling them.;SOLUTION: In the production process of the copolymers, an acid with a pKa in the range of 1.2 to 3.0 is used as the catalyst, and the reaction of the monomers of formaldehyde or paraformaldehyde, diphenyl oxide, and a carboxylic acid is conducted within a specific temperature range. Solid phosphorous acid may preferably be used as the catalyst. The reaction temperature is within the range of 86°C to 94°C.
