PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism degrading an oil component in soil, environmental water and garbage, and further to provide a method for degrading the oil component by using the microorganism.;SOLUTION: This microorganism belonging to the genus Rhodococcus has oil component-degrading activities of ≥50 wt.% assimilation rate of a heavy oil. The method for degrading the oil component uses the microorganism. Especially, the method for degrading the oil component uses at least one kind of species selected from the group consisting of C2 strain (FERM P-18509), C4 strain (FERM P-18510), C6 strain (FERM P-18511), C12 strain (FERM P-18513), and C15 strain (FERM P-18514).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
