PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of moving coil type polyphase linear motor in which the arrangement of peripheral devices is simplified by performing a driving method in which the absolute position is determined by detecting the phase of a moving coil type polyphase linear motor without using a prior art Hall element or absolute position sensor. PSOLUTION: In the driving method of a moving coil type three-phase linear motor 4, a position controller 1, a speed controller 2, a current controller 3, an incremental encoder 5, a displacement detector 6, a reference position detector 7, a current command generator 9, and a switch 10 for selecting a current command value being applied to the current controller 3 from any one of the speed controller 2 or the current command generator 9 constitute peripheral devices.
