PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound suitable as an electron transport material in an organic electrophotographic photoreceptor, an electrophotographic photoreceptor having sensitivity higher than that a conventional one using the compound and an organic electroluminescent element which actualizes an organic film to improve the luminescence property of the organic electroluminescent element and has improved performances by using the organic film in an electron injection/transport layer or a hole blocking layer. PSOLUTION: The heterocyclic compound is represented by general formula (1). Consequently, the new heterocyclic compound having an excellent electron transport property is obtained. When the compound is used in an electrophotographic photoreceptor, an electrophotographic photoreceptor having excellent electric properties, repetition stability and high durability is obtained. The compound has excellent thin film forming properties and is used as a hole blocking layer and an electron injection/ transport layer in an organic electroluminescent element to make a high-performance element having a long life.
