PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new gene, capable of coding a polypeptide having ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid: ethylenediamine lyase activities and useful for the production, etc., of a compound as a synthetic raw material for medicines and agrochemicals, a chelating agent, a builder, etc., for detergents. ;SOLUTION: The new gene DNA and its analog derived from the degeneracy of the genetic code have ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid: ethylenediamine lyase activities and are capable of coding a polypeptide having an amino acid sequence represented by the formula and useful for production, etc., of ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines and agrochemicals, a chelating agent, a builder, etc., for detergents. The gene is obtained by separating a chromosomal DNA from a Brevundimonas sp. TN-3 (FERM P-15558), preparing a DNA library using the separated DNA and screening the resultant DNA library with a probe comprising a part of the gene.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
