PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a preform of an optical fiber without increasing production cost, improving off-round rate of a core, and also free from generation of a bubble, at the time of manufacturing a large diameter preform of a glass fiber by a collapsible cladding method.;SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the preform of the glass fiber is that the glass rod 1 for the core is inserted into a glass pipe 2, and the glass pipe 2 is heated, softened and collapsed while reducing the inner pressure.
