PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent discharge instability by supplying deaerated ink to a head and to control the change in an ink concentration by the removal of water in the ink during deaeration. ;SOLUTION: In deaerators 511, 321 for removing dissolved gas in ink by reducing the pressure of a space confronting the ink through a gas permeable membrane equal to or less than the atmospheric pressure, when the pressure is equal to or below the saturated water vapor pressure of water, the amount of water which passed through the membrane per unit time is made 0.5 ml/hr or below, desirably 0.2 ml/hr or below, more desirably 0.04 ml/hr or below. The deaerators 511, 321 are installed in an ink supply route between ink tanks 301, 401 and an ink-jet head 120. When the deaerators 511, 321 are provided in the ink supply route, the amount of water which passed through the upstream deaerator 321 is made greater than that of the downstream deaerator 511.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
