METHOD FOR CULTIVATING COASTAL WETLANDS BY USING NATURALLY DECOMPOSABLE PLANT MATERIAL, AND COASTAL WETLANDS

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cultivating coastal wetlands by using naturally decomposable plant materials, which can preserve or restore coastal ecosystem in an almost natural state, and to provide the coastal wetlands. PSOLUTION: According to the method, a plant material zone 5 in which naturally decomposable plant materials 6 are laid is provided along a high-water line HWL of coastal land 1 gently declining from the high-water line HWL to the sea bottom, and products 10 generated by natural decomposition of the plant materials 6 are piled up on the coastal land 1 according to the tide level. Preferably, plain water 12 is introduced to the plant material zone 5 to accelerate the natural decomposition of the plant materials 6. More preferably, a planting strip 7 is arranged on a coastal side of the plant material zone 5, and blighted bodies of plants 8 in the planting strip 7 are employed as the plant materials 6. Further, the plain water 12 is introduced into the planting strip 7 from a height of the high-water line HWL or above, and an groundwater level 15 communicating with the plant material zone 5 is formed in the planting strip 7. The groundwater level 15 has a depth that is suitable for inhabitation of hygrophytes 8.
