PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IP address acquisition method capable of performing easy and highly accurate authentication on an IP network, and to provide a client/server system.;SOLUTION: In the IP address acquisition method for acquiring the address of a server to a communication destination by a client terminal on the IP network, the client terminal inquires the server to be a communicating party of the IP address of the server according to a prescribed communication protocol, the server authenticates the client terminal to be the transmission origin of the inquiry at the time of being inquired and notifies the IP address of the present server to the client terminal in the case of judging that access from the client terminal is to be permitted by the authentication, and the client terminal starts communication with the server by using the IP address notified from the server.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
