PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virtual living thing fostering system for allowing viewers to form a habit of viewing a program from a broadcast station without relying on broadcasting of a particular program, gifts or prize money or the like. PSOLUTION: Fostering data transmission apparatuses 3, 10, 11, 12 of a broadcast station 1 transmits data for creating a virtual living thing in a TV monitor 27 and multiplexed with broadcast streams. On the other hand, a data decoding section 15 of a viewer side receiver 2 separates the data from the broadcast streams and stores the data to a data storage section 21. Further, a viewing management section 22 of the receiver 2 calculates a viewing time of the station 1 and converts the time into points. Then the receiver 2 selects the data from the storage section 21 depending on the points and displays the virtual living thing grown up depending on the points on the TV monitor 27. Since the viewer can foster the virtual living thing in the TV monitor 27 depending on the points (viewing time) as above, the viewer selects the channel of the broadcast program at all times to watch over the virtual living thing growing up so that the virtual living thing fostering system allows the viewer to form a habit of viewing a program from the station 1.
