PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic watermark embedding apparatus capable of embedding unique information such as copyright information as an electronic watermark to image data in a way of remarkably reducing or eliminating deterioration in the image quality at reproduction in the case of embedding the unique information to the image data encoded by using an object encoding system such as the MPEG-4 visual encoding standard (ISO/IEC 14496-2).;SOLUTION: An embedding/encoding control means 1 produces the unique information s103 or the like, an embedding area detection means 23 uses shape information of at least one foreground object to detect an embedding area to which an electronic watermark is embedded, an embedding position determining means 24 determines the embedded position in the embedding area, and a spatial area electronic watermark embedding means 9 embeds the unique information encrypted by using an encryption key to a luminance value or a color value of pixels within a range of the embedded position in the embedding area as the electronic watermark.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
