PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-modified pressure-sensitive adhesive which has a surface modification layer fixed on the surface of a pressure-sensitive adhesive with a high adhesiveness; and a surface modification method for a pressure-sensitive adhesive. SOLUTION: This surface-modified pressure-sensitive adhesive has a surface modification layer formed from other polymer and physically fixed on the surface of a pressure-sensitive adhesive. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer may be cross-linked in such a state that the molecular chains of the polymer of the surface modification layer are partially included by the pressure-sensitive adhesive by molecularly diffusing the polymer of the surface modification layer from the surface to the inside of a pressure-sensitive adhesive. The surface modification method for a pressure-sensitive adhesive comprises the step (A) of forming a surface modification layer from other polymer on the surface of the pressure-sensitive adhesive without physically fixing it; the step (B) of molecularly diffusing the polymer of the surface modification layer from the surface into the inside of the pressure-sensitive adhesive; and the step (C) of cross-linking the pressure-sensitive adhesive in such a state that the molecular chains of the polymer of the surface modification layer are partially included by the pressure-sensitive adhesive, thus physically fixing the surface modification layer on the surface of the pressure- sensitive adhesive.
