PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately time aligning NRZ encoded data signals and RZ pulse signals by a completely automated manner without the need of human intervention.;SOLUTION: The method comprises a step of modulating a second signal (140) by a first signal (200) to provide a third signal (230, 240), and a step of determining frequency components of the third signal (230, 240), the frequency components being indicative of time alignment between the first and second signals (200, 140). According to an embodiment, the first signal (200) comprises a data signal in which data are encoded in a Non-Return-to-Zero (NRZ) signal format, the second signal (140) comprises a Return-to-Zero (RZ) pulse signal and the third signal (230, 240) comprises the data signal in which the data are encoded in a Return-to-Zero (RZ) signal format.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
