PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber selecting system by which an optical fiber can efficiently be selected for constituting an optical fiber transmission line.;SOLUTION: The optical fiber selecting system 10 selects one or more optical fibers for constituting the optical fiber transmission line which has predetermined characteristics from a plurality of optical fibers of selection candidates having different characteristics with each other. The optical fiber selecting system 10 is provided with an optical fiber selection part 14 which selects the one or more optical fibers by using a genetic algorithm from the optical fibers of the selection candidates, and an array order determining part 16 which determines the array order of each selected optical fiber so that the equivalent effective core cross section area of the optical fiber transmission line is maximized when the optical fibers are selected by the optical fiber selection part 14.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
