PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make processing fast by generating detail directed visibility elements and enabling more accurate determination as to the visibility of a polygon and a rendering element.;SOLUTION: A static stage 101 generates ADF 120 from a model 105, and determines visibility elements for the ADF 120 to produce a single static ADFVE 140. The static stage also initializes active cells 150 and a count of the total number of rendering elements NRE 180 required for a dynamic stage 102. The dynamic stage 102 adapts and optimizes active cells 150 and the NRE 180, which can be view-independent, for dynamically varying view parameters 160 and frame rate requirements 165. During each adaptation of the active cells 150 and the NRE 180, the ADFVE 140 is considered to determine when active cells 150 need to be added or removed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
