PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver that needs not always operate the function corresponding to a mode (64QAM) most sensitive to deterioration in precision in an adaptive modulation communication ;SOLUTION: A controller 104 reads a demodulation method from a control signal specifying the demodulation method (QPSK, 16-QAM, 64-QAM) and controls the sampling rate in an analog/digital converter 111 and an inverse spreader 102, the number of pilot symbols used by propagation path estimation block 106 and the number of pilot symbols inversely spread by the inverse spreader 102. Thus, when the demodulation method is other than the 64-QAM, since the controller can set the sampling rate or the like matching the QPSK or the 16-QAM and there is no need of operating the function corresponding to the 64-QAM at all times.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
