PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semitransmission type liquid crystal display device by which bright and high quality image display can be performed by effectively utilizing external light (incident light) and light of a backlight to enhance light intensity of image light and visibility.;SOLUTION: The semitransmission type liquid crystal display device 10 is provided with a pair of glass substrates 11 and 12 disposed opposite to each other, a liquid crystal layer 13 interposed between the glass substrates 11 and 12 and a semitransmissive reflection plate 14 reflecting external light made incident from the substrate 12 on the observer side toward the glass substrate 11 on the rear side and transmitting light from a backlight 25 emitted from the glass substrate 11 on the rear side toward the glass substrate 12 on the observer side. The semitransmissive reflection plate 14 is provided on the surface side adjacent to the liquid crystal layer 13 of the glass substrate 11 on the rear side. A plurality of triangular prism relieves 17 each having a reflection surface 17a inclined to the horizontal surface of the glass substrate 11 on the rear side and a transmission surface 17b are formed on the semitransmissive reflection plate 14 and thereby external light is reflected at an angle different from the angle of reflected light reflected on the glass substrate 12 on the observer side.
