METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING CIRCULARY PORALIZED LIGHT EXTRACTING OPTICAL ELEMENT, CIRCULARLY POLARIZED LIGHT EXTRACTING OPTICAL ELEMENT, POLARIZED LIGHT SOURCE DEVICE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE BOTH PROVIDED WITH THE SAME
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a circularly polarized light extracting optical element able to effectively suppress the deterioration of the display quality of a display device due to appearance of a light and dark pattern inside the screen of the display device.;SOLUTION: The circularly polarized light extracting optical element 10 is provided with a glass substrate 11, an alignment layer 12 laminated on the glass substrate 11 and a cholesteric layer 13 subjected to planar alignment caused by alignment controllability of the surface of the alignment layer 12. The cholesteric layer 13 has the first surface 13a located on the glass substrate 11 side and the second surface 13b being opposite to the first surface 13a. The director directions of molecules along the first surface 13a in the cholesteric layer 13 practically coincide with each other in the first surface 13a due to the alignment controllability of the surface of the alignment layer 12. Also the chiral pitch of the cholesteric layer 13 varies so as to have the chiral pitch p2 on the second surface 13b side being longer compared with the chiral pitch p1 on the first surface 13a side.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
