PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rosin emulsion sizing agent which is used for making paper, exhibits an excellent sizing effect and excellent ink jet suitability in a paper-making system in a weakly acidic to alkaline region, further exhibits low foamability, and scarcely causes the precipitation, film formation and the like of the emulsion in a high concentration. ;SOLUTION: This emulsion sizing agent for making the paper, comprising a rosin-based substance, an emulsifying dispersant, and water, uses a (meth) acrylamide-based copolymer obtained by the copolymerization of (meth) acrylamide, a hydrophobic monomer and a di-basic carboxylate group (or its salt)-containing monomer, as the emulsifying dispersant and further using a mercaptopropionate and/or a thioglycolate as the essential component of a chain transfer agent.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
