PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip capable of processing such a large quantity of image data as cannot be processed by a conventional optical mouse chip and a kinetic image sensing means and correctly determining the direction of the image movement without requiring adjustment of the delay time.;SOLUTION: The chip is a quasi-nervous network consisting of a plurality of silicon retinal cells, and has an image sensing array unit, an accumulation unit, and a comparison/selection unit. The image sensing array unit outputs the direction value of each image movement sensed by the silicon retinal cells. The accumulation unit is connected to the output end of the image sensing array unit for accumulating the total values of the output in the directions of the image movement sensed by the silicon retinal cells. The comparison/ selection unit is connected to the output end of the accumulation unit for selecting and outputting the direction representing the largest value among the total output values in the directions of the image movement and making the selected value represent the direction of movement of the image.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
