PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide austenitic stainless steel excellent in intergranular corrosion resistance in which the occurrence of intergranular corrosion can be prevented by the optimization of a production process without changing chemical components.;SOLUTION: In the austenitic stainless steel, in the relative orientation relation between the metallic crystal grains, the total ratio of grain boundary lengths having a Σ value of ≤29 to the total grain boundary length is ≥75%. Further, in the austenitic stainless steel, in the relative orientation relation between the metallic crystal grains, the total ratio of grain boundary lengths having Σ values of 3, 9 and 27 to the total grain boundary length is ≥70%. Then, the austenitic stainless steel is produced by subjecting solution heat-treated steel to thermomechanical treatment consisting of cold rolling at a draft of 2 to 15%, and holding at 900 to 1,000°C for ≥5 hr.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
