PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a student to use a definition and a theorem in order to solve a symbolic calculation problem or to obtain a solution similar to that in a textbook for the purpose of helping the student to learn symbolic aspects of algebra and calculus.;SOLUTION: A graphing calculator (10) includes a user interface on a screen display (100) that assists the user to learn the symbolic aspects of algebra and calculus by helping them analyze the structure of the mathematical objects they are working with, the legal transformation (Fig. 2b) that can be applied to those objects and the result (Fig. 2e) of the transformation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
