PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize coefficient of performance of a transition critical steam compression type device 20.;SOLUTION: Pressure on a high pressure side of the steam compression type device 20 is selected so as to optimize coefficient of performance by measuring temperature of a heat sink inlet 34 by a temperature sensor 38. Single and optimum pressure on the high pressure side for optimizing coefficient of performance is selected for every heat sink inlet temperature. The optimum pressure on the high pressure side for each heat sink inlet temperature is based on data obtained by a prior test and is set in a controller 42 in advance. A pressure sensor 40 measures pressure on the high pressure side continuously. If pressure on the high pressure side is not an optimum value, setting of an expansion device 26 is adjusted to change pressure on the high pressure side to the optimum value.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
