PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile telephone communication method capable of enabling accurate measurement of quality of a voice channel in operation and simultaneous transmission of voice information and character information using one voice channel, etc., by transmitting a data signal such as a PN pattern or character data together with a voice signal by one voice signal channel with respect to a digital mobile telephone communication method for digitizing the voice and transmitting it, a voice channel switching method therein and a mobile station and a base station for realizing these methods. SOLUTION: On the transmitter side, a voice detection section 44 detects a silence section and controls a selector 18 to replace the silence section with a PN pattern being sandwiched by a start signal and an end signal. On the receiver side, a silence notice frame detection section 50 detects a start signal and an end signal, and controls a selector 36 to replace the portion between the start and end signals with a background noise.
