PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a main electrode of a cold-cathode discharge tube capable of improving productivity, and capable of manufacturing the main electrode of the cold-cathode discharge tube by maintaining a specific quality. ;SOLUTION: This electrode manufacturing method manufactures the main electrode sealed in at least either one of both end parts of a glass bulb by welding a bar-shaped metallic body 4 and a metallic cylinder 3 having a bottom part inside surface having a diameter smaller than an inner diameter of a cylindrical part by gradually reducing an inner diameter in the vicinity of a bottom part in a cylindrical part 5 of a bottomed cylinder shape, and is composed of an inserting process of allowing a first electrode body 9 of one welding electrode to abut to only the inside surface of the bottom part 6, and inserting at least a part of a second electrode body 10 continuously arranged in the first electrode body into the cylindrical part, a connecting process of connecting the other welding electrode 8 to the metallic body, a pressure contact process of bringing one end of the metallic body into pressure contact with an outside surface of the bottom part 6, and a welding process of welding the metallic cylinder and the metallic body by carrying an electric current between the metallic cylinder and the metallic body via a pair of welding electrodes.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
