PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for selecting a camera parameter calculation standard point in consideration of a surveying cost, arrangement or the like when the camera parameter of an image photographed over a wide area is calculated from a datum point.;SOLUTION: A datum point candidate forming device 202 enumerates the candidates of the datum point on a surface capable of being actually arranged and having a three-dimensional shape on reference to a three-dimensional map 201 including the three-dimensional data of artificial matter and natural matter. A datum point selection device 203 selects the datum point from the candidates on reference to a distribution evaluation value, showing that the distribution of the surveying cost evaluation value related to the surveying of the three-dimensional position of the datum point and that of the datum point evaluated by a distribution evaluation device 205 are equal to have an expanse in a photographing space. The selected datum point is stored in a datum point data base 206 along with the three-dimensional coordinates value thereof and displayed to a user along with the three-dimensional map 201 by a datum point display device 207.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
