PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable dispersion equalizer, having superior controllability and a widened dispersion controllable range that applies dispersion equalization control, even with respect to large residual dispersion values, with optimum conditions. ;SOLUTION: An optical filter circuit 17 captures part of an optical signal transmitted through an optical fiber transmission line 11 by branching the optical signal by an optical tap 13 and passes an optical signal with processing wavelength band in the distributed optical signal, a photoelectric conversion circuit 14 converts the optical signal into an electrical signal, a clock extract filter circuit 15 outputs a clock component with a specific frequency from the electric signal and a control circuit 16 applies wavelength distribution control to a variable dispersion equalizer 12, depending on the magnitude of the clock component.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
