PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating material which prevents organisms such as shell fishes and algae from attaching specifically to the portion to be submerged in seawater and can surely prevent the attachment of water organisms.;SOLUTION: This coating material to be coated on the portions submerged in water is a coating material for preventing the attachment of aquatic organisms, and which comprises at least hydrochloric acids. The hydrochloric acids are incorporated in a suitable amount of 0.01-1.0%. Further, the coating material may contain a surface active agent in addition to the hydrochloric acids. By mixing a substance containing at least hydrochloric acids and a surface active agent with a known coating material to coat the resulting coating material in coating the coating material for preventing the attachment of aquatic organisms, it is possible to coat a coating material obtained by procuring and mixing a commercially available toilet cleaning agent comprising hydrochloric acids and a surface active agent into a commercially available conventional coating material for the bottom of a ship, or the like. Accordingly, when shipowners repair and maintain their ships, the coating material is convenient and, in addition, can be easily realized at a low cost.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
