PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a special character processing method capable of accurately displaying mail data including a special character in a perfect state with a simple structure, and to provide a cellphone terminal with a special character processing function.;SOLUTION: This cellphone terminal 10 (including a PHS terminal) having an electronic mail function has the special character processing function for transmitting/receiving the mail data to/from a cellphone terminal 10 having a special character code table 24a of a standard different from a standard set in the terminal 10. The cellphone terminal 10 has an input means 25 inputting the mail data including the special character; a storage means 24 storing at least one kind of special character code table; a selection means 23 selecting at least one kind of the corresponding special character code table from the storage means 24; a character conversion means 22 coding/decoding the mail data on the basis of the selected special character code table; a memory means 21 storing the converted mail data; and a communication control means 20 controlling the transmission/reception of the mail data.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
