PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new transition metal compound that can be used as an α-olefin-polymerizing catalyst capable of producing an olefin polymer of high molecular weight and low melting point in a high yield which contains less components of low molecular weight and can be heat-sealed at a comparatively low temperature. ;SOLUTION: The transition metal compound represented by general formula (Ia) [wherein, R1, R2, R4 and R5 are each hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group containing hydrocarbon silicon or 1-6C halogenated hydrocarbon group; R3 and R6 are each a saturated or unsaturated bivalent hydrocarbon group; R41 and R42 are each a 1-20C hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon group; and R7 and R8 are each a group represented by general formula (Ib) (wherein, R9, R10, R11, R12 an R13 are each independently hydrogen atom, a 1-6C hydrocarbon group or the like; Q is a bivalent hydrocarbon group, silylene group or the like; X and Y are each hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or the like; and M is a transition metal belonging to the IV group of the periodic table)].;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
