Compositions containing an active fraction isolated from ganoderma lucidum and methods of use

This invention provides processes to obtain pharmaceutically active fractions from the fungus Ganoderma Lucidum. In one aspect, the process requires extracting from a homogenate of Ganoderma Lucidum a fraction isolated by column chromatography that has an optical absorbance between about 200 nm to about 280 nm. The compound and extracts are useful to inhibit the growth of endothelial cells and to inhibit vascularization in a tissue. Methods of treating various diseases, including cancer and arthritis, are also provided herein.
