System and method for automatic semantic coding of free response data using Hidden Markov Model methodology

A system and method for coding text data wherein a Hidden Markov Model is generated responsive to a first group of text data. A second group of text data may then be coded using a Viterbi algorithm or a Sampling Algorithm which is responsive to the generated Hidden Markov Model.
