Enforcing an upper bound on the display height of mathematical expressions on a handheld electronic device

A method and handheld computing device wherein an upper bound is enforced on the display height of mathematical expressions (234) on a display screen (211) of a handheld computing or electronic device. At least one transformation (230) remains visible on the display screen (211), and portions of the object (234) exceeding the upper bound are truncated. An arrow (236) may be used to indicate the presence of truncated portions of the object (234), and to indicate that the object (234) may be scrolled either vertically or horizontally for viewing of the entire object (234).
