A rotary drag bit comprises a bit body having blades on its face; discrete, mutually separated post-like cutting structures protruding upwardly from each of the blade; and polycrystalline diamond compact cutters within a cone portion of the bit's face. A rotary drag bit for drilling subterranean formations comprises a bit body (12) having a face (16) extending from a centerline to a gage. The face includes a cone portion (34) surrounding the centerline. Blades (18), which extend radially outwardly toward the gage, are provided on the face. Discrete, mutually separated cutting structures (24) comprising particulate abrasive material protrude upwardly from each of the blade. Polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) cutters (32) are located on the face within the cone portion. An independent claim is also included for a method of drilling subterranean formation using the inventive rotary drill bit.
