Continuous casting of steel with uniformly distributed fine oxides involves injecting a finely divided metallic material into the steel as it passes from the distributor into the casting mold
Continuous casting of steel with uniformly distributed fine oxides involves injecting a finely divided metallic material into the steel as it passes from the distributor into the casting mold. The continuous casting of a steel, allowing the generation of fine oxides during solidification, consists of: (a) casting a steel with a given dissolved oxygen content from a distributor (2) into a mold (1); (b) injecting a finely divided or powdered metallic material into an injection zone (15) corresponding to the hollow jet at the core of the nozzle (5) of the distributor; (c) precisely controlling the ratio of metallic material and oxygen between the metallic material injected and the dissolved oxygen; (d) mixing the metallic material with the steel at the end of the injection zone in the nozzle or in the zone where the nozzle joins the mold, to form fine metallic oxides uniformly distributed in the mass of steel in the mold. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a continuous casting nozzle for feeding steel from a distributor into a mold and incorporating a system for injecting finely divided or powdered solid metallic material; and (b) an installation for the continuous casting of steel by this method.
