In the present invention there is disclosed L-nucleoside of the general formula I, in which R represents 5-methyl uracil, adenine or cytosine residues, R'' represents a hydrogen atom, acetyl, propionyl, butyryl, pentanoyl, 3-methylbutyryl, benzoyl or pivaloyl group or it can also represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms or mono-, di or triphosphate alkyl ester or phenyl alkyl ester group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alkyl moieties, further pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. These compounds are efficient substances for a pharmaceutical preparation intended for treating a host infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
