The present invention relates to novel octahydronaphthalene oxime derivatives of formula (I), to their preparation, and to pharmaceutical compositions containing such compounds. In formula (I), R is hydrogen; X is C 1-10 alkyl; A is C 1-10 alkylene; Y is hydrogen, halogen, trifluoromethyl, and alkoxy having 1-4 carbon atoms as substituents at least one optionally substituted phenyl; furan; or a 5-membered aromatic heterocyclic group containing a nitrogen atom and a single oxygen or sulfur atom, optionally substituted with 1 to 7 carbon atoms. The compounds of formula (I) are capable of inhibiting the biosynthesis of cholesterol, and are therefore useful in the treatment and prevention of diseases associated with high blood cholesterol. ŕ
