A method for controlling operation of a pre-patient collimator in a computed tomography system including an x-ray source and a detector during a fluoroscopy scan, said method comprising the steps of: positioning the collimator in a first position so that an x-ray beam from the x-ray source is oriented in a nominal position on the detector; and deflecting the x-ray beam from the nominal position on the detector.
