High drug load immediate and modified release oral dosage formulations of eprosartan used to block angiotensin II (AII) receptors in the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure and renal failure

A high drug load granulation of (E)-á-[2-n-butyl-1- [(4-carboxyphenyl) methyl]-1H- imidazol-5-yl] methylene-2- thiophenepropionic acid in the anhydrous form, and a process for its production is described. Compositions containing the compound and methods of using the compound to block angiotensin II receptors and to treat hypertension, congestive heart failure and renal failure are also described. Figures 1 (A), 2 (A) and 3 (A) show, respectively, the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), the differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) thermogram and the powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the free base of anhydrous (E) -á-2-n-butyl-1- [ (4-carboxyphenyl) methyl]-IH-imidazol-5-yl] methylene-2-thiophenepropionic acid.
