The process is for the chemical synthesis of amino acids derived from amino alcohols by dehydrogenation and functions in basic medium at temperatures from 80 degrees Celsius to 250 degrees Celsius in the presence of catalyzers of the Raney nickel type containing as promoters metals such as manganese, titanium, iron, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten and cobalt at between 0.5 and 4 percent.
