A prophylactic device (10) for inhibiting transmission of sexually-transmitted diseases includes a structure (12) which is liquid impervious and which is adapted to cover areas of the human male body at least in the vicinity of the male genitalia, the structure having an aperture (14) through which an erect male penis sheathed in a condom (16) can protrude, and condom attachment means (18) on a body-facing side of the structure (12) for releasable sealing cooperation with an open end of the condom (16). The invention extends to a prophylactic device for use by a female.
