One or more computer tales, representative of the document to be rendered, are generated for describing at least a portion of the document. At least one of the representative computer tiles is generated in a device-independent page description language. Subse- quently, one or more data fields of one or more of the representative com -puter file/s may be edited independently of the creator software application program/s and in accordance with predetermined rules.
