The present invention relates to an upper extremity prosthesis characterised by the fact the housing contains two optical sensors that use near-infrared spectroscopy to detect the contraction and relaxation of the agonist and antagonist muscles of the stump and translate them in actuation commands for the motorised artificial hand of the prosthesis by means of suitable management electronics.
