The procedure and product for stabilization of panels of solid wood involves the application on wood of polyethylene glycol with the general formula of OH-(-CH2-CH2-O)n-H, where n is a whole number greater than or equal to 1. The application is effected by immersing the panels in a bath of polyethylene glycol or by brushing their surface with polyethylene glycol. The polyethylene glycol is of molecular weight between 200 and 58000 and preferable is PEG200, PEG400 or PEG600.
