ALLY MECHANISM FOR INTERCONNECTING NON-DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING ENVIRONMENT (DCE) AND DCE SYSTEMS TO OPERATE IN A NETWORK SYSTEM

A distributed system includes a non-distributedcomputing environment (DCE) computer system and at leastone DCE computer system which are loosely coupledtogether through a communications network operating witha standard communications protocol. The non-DCE and DCEcomputer systems operate under the control ofproprietary and UNIX based operating systemsrespectively. The non-DCE computer system furtherincludes application client software for providingaccess to distributed DCE service components via aremote procedure call (RPC) mechanism obtained throughapplication server software included on the DCE computersystem. A minimum number of software components moduleswhich comprise client RPC runtime component and animport API component included in the non-DCE and an Allycomponent on the DCE computer systems to operate inconjunction with the client and server software toprovide access to DCE services by non-DCE userapplications through the RPC mechanisms of both systemseliminating the need to port the DCE software servicecomponents onto the non-DCE computer system.
