The present invention concerns an electrolyticalprocess for dissolving platinum, plahinuan metalimpurities andlor platinum metal alloys, inparticular with contents of Rh, Pd, Tr, Au and AG,in aqueous hydsoehloric acid. The process accordingto the invention is characterized in that thedissolution process takes place in an electrolysiscell subdivided by a ration exchanger membrane, ifsuitable in the presence of platinum metal salts orplatinum metal acids, at temperatures between 50and 110°C, under potentiostatic or voltage-controlled conditions in the range of 2.5 v to 8 vand under a current density, of 0.3 to 7.0 A/dm2. Incontrast to the known processes, the processaccording to the invention operates with minimalrequirements in terms of safety technology andapparatus and causes minimal stress to theenvironment.
